Community Tree Planting, Frangipani Avenue Reserve, Auckland
CVNZ welcomes you to a fun day out on the Papakura Stream Restoration Project. This is a catchment-wide programme, aimed at bringing life back to the Papakura Stream - one of Auckland's most impacted freshwater systems. Since 2021, CVNZ has been working alongside local boards, Auckland Council, partners and landowners to restore the health of the stream. To date, we have planted over 168,000 native plants and trees, with another 30,000+ planned for this winter. We need your help! Come along to this community planting day and get ready to dig deep. This year, we are planting approximately 5,000 plants at Frangipani Avenue Reserve, located at the mouth of the Manukau Harbour. These native plants will help to improve water quality entering our moana, reduce stream bank erosion and sediment runoff, increase native habitat for birds, fish and other wildlife and enhance green spaces and opportunities for community involvement. All tools and equipment will be provided. Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear, bring a water bottle and snacks! We will finish our planting at 12:30pm and end with some celebratory snacks for all our volunteers. For this volunteer day you are welcome to meet us on site, or at our office in Mount Eden to get a ride in our van (by prior arrangement). This event is made possible through generous funding from the Papakura, Franklin and Manurewa Local Boards.
